The Abbot, a novel by Sir Walter Scott. This story is a sequel to The Monastery. It relates to the history of Mary, Queen of Scots. The author says of it, "I ventured to awaken, in a work of fiction, the memory of Queen Mary, so interesting by her wit, her beauty, her misfortunes, and the mystery which still does, and probably always will, overhang her history."
