Account', in a broad sense a list of items of debts or credits between one person and another. An account is said to be mutual when it contains demands of each of the parties against the other, as the account between two merchants, each of whom has sold goods to the other. Before an account is rendered, that is, before notice of it is sent from one party to another, it is said to be open or current. When it has been accepted as correct by the party against whom it shows a balance, it is said to be stated. This acceptance may be expressed, or it may be implied from the debtor's retaining an account rendered without objecting within a reasonable time.
