Ac'upunc'ture, a surgical operation, consisting of the insertion of needles into certain parts of the body for the purpose of alleviating pain, or for the cure of rheumatism, neuralgia and other diseases. It is easily performed, gives little pain, causes neither bleeding nor inflammation and seems at times to be of surprising efficacy.
