Addis Abeba, ah'dis a ba'bah, (now known as Addis Ababa)the capital of Ethiopia, in the province of Shoa, situated at an altitude of over 8,000 feet. This city was the scene of the signing of the treaty of peace between Italy and Abyssinia in 1896, in which Italy resigned her claim to a protectorate. Population in early 1900s estimated at 50,000. By the late 1900s, its population had grown to 1,464,901.
