Albany, GA., the county-set of Dougherty co., is situated on the Flint River, 107 mi. s. w. of Macon and on the Albany & Northern, the Central of Georgia and other railroads. It is an important railroad center. The chief industries include cotton-pressing, brick-making and the manufacture of fertilizers. The city is an important cotton port. It is also the industrial center of a pecan- and peanut-producing area. Population in 1910, 8190; in 1990, 78,122.
