ANANTHERIX (from a, without, and antherix, and awn; there are no horn-formed processes from the base of the leaflets of the corona, as in Asclepias, to which it is closely allied). ORD. Asclepiadeae. A small genus of pretty, hardy herbs. A. viridis is of easy culture in an open situation, and light soil. Increased by division of the root; or by seeds, which ripen in abundance. ANANTHERIX viridis (green). fl. purplish-green, large; corolla sub-campanulate, five-cleft; umbels proceeding from the stem, sub-panicled, few-flowered. August. l. opposite, sessile, obovateoblong, pointed, smoothish. h. 1ft. North America, 1812.
