Ascanius, as ka' ni-us, or Iulus, i-u'lus, in classical legend, the son of Aeneas and Creusa. As a child he accompanied his father in his wanderings after the Trojan War. Later he supported Aeneas in his wars with the Latins, succeeded him in the government of Latium, and founded the city of Alba Longa. His descendants ruled Alba for 420 years.
