Atchafalaya, ach'a fa li'ah (Lost Water), a river of the United States, an outlet of the Red River. It branches off before the junction of the Red River with the Mississippi, flows southward, and enters the Gulf of Mexico by Atchafalaya Bay. Its length is 220 miles, the greater part of which is navigable.
