CATNIP, or Catmint: a field plant growing wild throughout the United States. The leaves and young shoots--aromatic, pungent and more or less bitter--are used for seasoning and as a domestic remedy. The leaves are best while the plant is blooming. They may be preserved by drying a few days, being afterward kept in a dry place. Everyone is familiar with the pleasure a cat finds in playing with catnip, and catnip-balls, containing a few pieces, are an article of regular sale.
