(or dale'ya), a genus of plants belonging to the order Compositae, so called after the Swedish botanist Dahl. Dahlias are natives of Mexico, but they are extensively cultivated in the United States and Europe, in an immense number of varieties, producing large and beautiful flowers of almost every imaginable color.
