(1851- ), an American organist and composer, born at Greenfield, Mass., and educated in America and in Germany. On his return to the United States in 1875 he settled in Chicago, becoming organist, successively, in several of the foremost churches. He was soon considered the leading organist in the West, and even in America, and later he was recognized, as both artist and composer, by foreign critics.
