Linen, woolen, silk and mixed silk goods, ribbons and velvet are extensively made and exported. There are numerous mills for spinning cotton twist, linen yarn and worsted, besides numerous dyeworks and miscellaneous industrial establishments. The commerce is extensive, and Elberfeld is an important railway center. Population in 1900, 156,966.
