e'o seen, Epoch, a division of geologic time, applied to the first part of the Tertiary period. In the United States the formations of this period extend along the Atlantic coast and the Gulf of Mexico, up the Mississippi valley and north of the Ohio. They also occur in some of the ranges of the Rocky Mountains. The rocks include sands, marls, clays, sandstone and limestone. See TERTIARY PERIOD.
