a king of Assyria. He came to the throne in 680 B. C., on the death of his father, Sennacherib, and his first work was to punish his brothers, who had killed Sennacherib. Besides the war against his brothers, he was engaged in a conflict with the Chaldeans and in an expedition against Egypt, which he reduced to the condition of an Assyrian province.
