the eldest son of Isaac and twin brother of Jacob. The story of his marriage, of his loss of birthright through the craft of Rebekah and Jacob and of his quarrel and reconciliation with Jacob is told in the book of Genesis. He was the progenitor of the Edomites, who dwelt on Mount Seir.
