jel se' mi um, or Yellow Jasmine, a shrub of the Southern states, with opposite, lance-shaped, shining leaves and sweet-scented yellow flowers. The root is poisonous, but has valuable medicinal properties, being used for controlling certain forms of nervous irritability.
