(1867- ), an American illustrator, born at Roxbury, Mass. He studied at the Art Students' League in New York and in 1886 began to draw for periodicals. He studied in Paris and also in London and Munich. His popular works are cartoons of society. He created the type of feminine beauty known as the "Gibson girl." Among his published works are the Education of Mr. Pipp, A Widow and Her Friends, The Social Ladder, London as Seen by C. D. Gibson and People of Dickens.
