(1851-1889), an American editor and author, born at Athens, Ga. He was educated at the University of Georgia and the University of Virginia. As editor and correspondent of various papers, he attracted attention for his articles on the South, and in 1882 he became managing editor and part owner of the Atlanta Constitution. He also won a reputation as a public speaker, especially on the theme "The New South."
