gwah'dah lah hah'rah, a city of Mexico, capital of the State of Jalisco, in the fruitful valley of Atemajac, on the Rio de Santiago. It is a large and handsome city, with a fine cathedral, a university, a mint, several convents, a high school and an art academy. The city contains a library of 24,000 volumes and has a number of literary and scientific institutions. Manufacturing is carried on, the principal products being silversmiths' and goldsmiths' wares, paper, leather, hats, pottery and cloth. Population, about 95,000.
