(1764-1823), an English novelist, born in London. She was married at the age of twenty-three to William Radcliffe, afterward editor and proprietor of the English Chronicle newspaper. She published in quick succession The Castles of Athlin and Dunbayne, a Highland story; A Sicilian Romance; The Italian; The Romance of the Forest, and The Mysteries of Udolpho, which was long very popular.
