Valdai, val di', Hills, a range of hills, situated in western Russia, and forming the chief watershed of that part of Europe. They are dome-shaped elevations, consisting of hills and plateaus, with an average altitude of from 8000 to 9000 feet, the highest summit reaching an elevation of 11,000 feet. They contain the sources of the Volga, the Dnieper and the Duna.
