Valley City N. D., the county-seat of Barnes co., 58 mi. w. of Fargo, is situated on the Sheyenne River and on the Northern Pacific and the Minneapolis, Saint Paul & Sault Sainte Marie railroads. The surrounding country produces large quantities of wheat, flax and vegetables. A state normal school is located here. Among the other noteworthy buildings are the county courthouse and the high school. The city has a large trade in merchandise and produce Near by is a viaduct of the Northern Pacific Railroad, 164 feet high and 4000 feet long. Population in 1905, 4059.
