Waldersee, vahl'dur zay, ALFRED, Count (1832-1904), a German soldier. He served in the Seven Weeks' War and in the Franco-Prussian War and won honors for the ability and bravery he displayed. Several offices, both diplomatic and military, were conferred upon him, and in 1900 he was made field marshal. He had command of the German army, and also of the allied forces, during the Boxer trouble in China in 1900.
