Zac'ate'cas, a city of Mexico and capital of the state of the same name, situated in the south central part of the country, 350 mi. n. w. of the City of Mexico. The chief buildings are a municipal palace, a cathedral and the buildings of a number of educational institutions. The city also has a mint and a number of hospitals. It is built in the vicinity of silver mines and has manufactures of pottery of some importance. Population in 1900, 39,912.
